Linux Information

I used to use this top space to insert some cheap jabs at Microsoft operating systems. I don't anymore. I think it's self-evident how poor their quality is. I run Linux because Linux is about choice and the freedom to run your system exactly how you want it. There are no imposed regulations, everything is up to how you want it to be.

my main system:

  • AMD XP 3200+ with 1gig of RAM
  • 280gig of HD space
  • Debian Unstable
  • Linux 2.6.10
  • XFree86 4.3.0.1

xinerama. 2560x1024 and 5 virtual desks. i had to size the image way down, but this'll still give you a feel. I'm running Evolution on desk 0, and multisync to sync with my phone.

It's been a long time since I did a screenshot. Very recently I've changed up my desktop layout, adding another devel desk, and shifting everything else over one. I'm still getting used to that. Desk 5 (the far right one) shows LyX, the app I use to type papers. Now let's go through backgrounds... The one on desk 0 is by me. Desk 1 is by leafinsectman. Desk 2 is by shiiizzzam. Desk 4, keen. Desk 5 is by iker.

Backgrounds on desks 0 and 3 are modified versions of images from darkfae and strip (yeah... fidgeting with wallpaper is my new hobby). The image on desk 1 is from wrex, and is one of my favorites to ever hit that desk. Also on desk 1 is an output image from a bar graph library I just wrote to replace gLarry's, since I lost that in a HD crash. You'll also notice on desk 3 that I've finally switched back to mutt.

This is just a single desk screenshot showing Enlightenment 0.17. In the bottom right is Etcher, a tool for editing E17 bits. The E DB Editor in the bottom left is a temporary thing until GUI config tools are done. On the far left is an iconbar. The cursor is actually over the Mozilla icon, hence it being lit up.

It's been a while since I've done a shot, but little changes. The backgrounds are from rank, mathaz, not sure, and kittin. The app on desk 3 is Furthur. Desk 1 is proof that I'm still doing eThreads work.

Another shot with just different backgrounds, although I have to say that the background on desk 1 (my programming desk) is probably the coolest I've had there. I would give links to background sites, but rulian.com and deviantart are both messed up right now.

New backgrounds, although one looks to have been in a screenshot before. These shots are from Drop Shadow, Rulian, Dark Negative, and Deviant Art (I can't find the last one again right now). Desk 0 shows geCam, my little graphical webcam.

Aside from new backgrounds, the main feature in this shot is the fact that I'm running a big w3m on my third desktop in place of Mozilla (since I broke it for a couple days). It renders Slashdot really well.

I'm stuck in a rut. The backgrounds change (frequently), the window manager changes (seldomly), but all my apps seem to stay in exactly the same place. Weird. This shot shows a cool flat theme that I'm running right now, and my choice of wallpaper (3 of the 5 desktops (1, 2 and 5) are from Ronn Lund, desktop 3 is from Misery) at the moment.

This is off my notebook. Same sampled down style (my notebook runs at 1024x768). You'll notice I'm trying out efm. I'm still not sure if it's worth it right now. Once it's in E there'll be no question, though.

No, I don't have xinerama. I wish... This is merely my first four desktops sampled down and merged together into one screenshot. You can really see how addicted I am to transparent Eterms. The mp3 player in the upper right corner of desk 0 is smartplay. I'm trying it out to see if I like it. It's Perl, so I may hack on it some.

I just got around to grabbing all the shots that used to be up on this site way back when. I wish I could find some from back farther, though... I know I have e 0.13 shots somewhere.
