As you probably know by now, I'm Eric Richardson, I'm a part of The Dream, and I'm running for Treasurer of Student Council.
Most people who give speeches like this one tend to come up here and rant and rave about their qualifications for the position. I like to rant and rave, so I figure I ought to follow that same model. So let's see here... Like I said, I'm running for treasurer. They recently informed me that the duty of this position is to handle money. I figure that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I've watched my share of CNBC, so I know all about money and stuff. Based on what I've seen Alan Greenspan do, I figure I should plan to use careful manipulation of the interest rate in order to maximize the economic growth potential. This should allow me to keep inflation down, while still maintaining positive growth.
Hey, it always works on TV...
It's because I believe in change that I'm here today, running for the office of Student Council Treasurer. As Treasurer, I plan to push through Student Council a sweeping set of changes aimed at protecting our most valuable resource - the rain forests of North Muskegon. Global deforestation is occurring at an alarming rate, with more and more trees cut down every second in order to make room for urban expansion. As responsible citizens, we must do our part to prevent our rain forests from falling prey to the same logging that is overtaking forests across the world.
In order to assure this prevention, I'm prepared to propose an extensive system of parks and recreational facilities where we can enjoy the land at the same time as we protect it from deadly urban sprawl. Using the legislative power I trust you will bestow upon The Dream, I'm confident we can garner up the necessary majority of votes.
In all seriousness, electing The Dream really is the best thing you can do today. What we've assembled here is a highly talented group of individuals who - when elected - will be able to merge together to drive our vision of change through the school. We're tired of Student Council doing the same nothingness every year, and we're here to change it.
I now officially welcome you to the era of The Dream. Hang on for the ride and enjoy the year.
